THE CRITIC
Set in 1930’s London. When the most feared and vicious theatre critic in town Jimmy Erskine (Ian Mckellen), finds himself suddenly in the cross hairs of the Daily Chronicle’s new owner David Brooke (Mark Strong), he strikes a Faustian pact with struggling actress Nina Land (Gemma Arterton) who is desperate to win his favour. It’s the story of a theatre critic whose venomous writing is the least unpleasant thing about him.
“A devious Ian McKellen anchors this thriller – a delicious performance as a catty gay theatre critic in 1930s London” – The Guardian
“The Ian McKellen and Gemma Arterton show is a hoot – this tangy tale of a savage theatre critic and one of his hapless victims lovingly recreates the West End of the 1930s” – The Times
“A wickedly entertaining Ian McKellen” – The Telegraph
