Annual Parish Meeting April 2026
The Annual Parish Meeting was held in the Millennium Pavilion in April. It was heartening to hear reports from the organisations in the village: the Parish Council, Village Hall, Crafts in Action, Village Cinema, Ladies Group, St George’s (including Eco Church), and Mini Band. There is so much going on throughout the year with many volunteers organising events, maintaining buildings, and looking after open spaces.

THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND
The Ballad of Wallis Island is a 2025 British comedy-drama film, written by Tim Key and Tom Basden, starring Carey Mulligan, about an eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island, who tries to make his fantasies come true by getting his favourite musicians to perform at his home. Herb McGwyer—formerly half of folk duo McGwyer/ Mortimer—arrives on the remote Wallis Island off the coast of Wales, where eccentric widowed super-fan Charles Heath has contracted him to play a show before a select private audience. Charles brings Herb to stay at his home, presenting his £500,000 fee as a suitcase of cash —and eventually admits that he will be the show’s sole audience. Herb is surprised by the arrival of Nell, the other half of McGwyer/Mortimer, who he has not seen in years, and old tensions resurface as Charles tries desperately to salvage his dream gig. You’ll leave wanting your own island, your own gig and your own lock of Carey Mulligan’s hair.
